Flashpoint RPG Review

I just read an early copy of the Flashpoint Role Playing Game. It is based off of the novel Flashpoint by Frank Creed. I will have to admit that I have not always been one of the biggest enthusiasts for RPGs (gamers shorthand for “role playing games), but I did like what I saw in this one.

It starts off with a brief description of what a RPG is and a brief glossary of terms related to the game. One paragraph is devoted to telling the reader what the world of Flashpoint is, but I really recommend that the future gamer read the novel so that they can be more knowledgeable of the world that the game takes place in.

This is a quick start guide so it is very basic. The game rules are laid out very simply and concisely. A more developed version is promised for sometime in the future, but a specific date has not been given. Game play is very easy to follow and all that is needed is a couple of six sided dice, some paper, pencils, a good imagination, and a desire to have fun. There is even a scenario made up so that players can start a game immediately.

The only gripe that I had about the game is that there were no maps. The quick start scenario would tell players to look at certain maps during the course of the game, but the maps were not included in the booklet.

Glad you liked it Joseph! Role-playing games to market well to the Christian subculture, but they are such a valuable ministry and discipleship tool. I hope the end-times sci-fi cyberpunk setting of Flashpoint: Book One of the Underground changes that.
